Review of Rural Speed Limits

To consider a response to the review of speed limits on Oxfordshire A & B Roads. As deferred from the meeting of the Council on 13 July 20206 (Minute FC382 relates)

Minutes:

Following deferment from the meeting of the Council (Minute FC382 13.07.2026 relates) the Committee considered the correspondence received from Oxfordshire County Council regarding a consultation of proposed rural speed limit changes.

 

Members generally supported the proposals, noting that the recommendations appeared proportionate and aimed at improving road safety.

 

The Committee was in unanimous agreement that the following submission be entered.

 

Witney Town Council supports the proposed scheme and welcomes measures that improve road safety for all users. The Council is particularly supportive of changes to speed limits where they will help reduce the risk of collisions and create safer conditions for all road users.

 

The Council also recognises the wider benefits that appropriately managed speed limits can bring, including improvements to the local environment through reduced noise and emissions, and enhanced quality of life for residents.

 

Overall, Witney Town Council welcomes the review and supports proposals that contribute to making Oxfordshire's roads safer.

That, the above response be submitted to the Vision Zero team at Oxfordshire County Council.
