To consider application W/26/00652/PRMA for a New Premises Licence at 888 Drip & Vape, 62 Corn Street, Witney, under the Licensing Act 2003.

The Committee received the application from 888 Drip & Vape, 62 Corn Street, Witney for a new premises licence.

Witney Town Council objects to the application on the grounds that it does not adequately promote the licensing objective of the protection of children from harm under the Licensing Act 2003.

Whilst acknowledging that the sale of alcohol, vaping products and tobacco-related products is lawful, The Council has concerns regarding the proposed layout of the premises. Children visiting the shop to purchase everyday items such as confectionery, crisps and soft drinks would be required to pass displays of vaping products, smoking-related paraphernalia and, if this application is granted, alcohol. Locating alcohol alongside products that are commonly purchased by children would increase their exposure to age-restricted goods during routine visits to the premises.

The Council considers this level of visibility does not demonstrate sufficient regard for theprotection of children from harm.

Witney Town Council therefore objects to the application and asks the Licensing Authority to encourage the applicant to consider reconfiguring the layout to provide a clearer separation between age-restricted products and goods primarily purchased by children.
